Seed + Mill is a very unique sesame based dessert store tucked within the hustle and bustle of Chelsea Market. They primarily sell halva and soft serve, and I first approached the counter thinking "I have no clue what this is but I will give it a try."
Food I've tried:
- SEA SALT DARK CHOCOLATE HALVA ($8 per slice): appearance wise it looks like a very dense cake. The texture is crumbly, and pieces fall apart from it. As someone who doesn't have a very big sweet tooth, I thought it was overwhelmingly sweet to the point that I couldn't really appreciate the more savory flavors I was expecting from a sesame based dessert. The chocolate and sea salt flavor I was expecting was also buried underneath a more peanut buttery richness. It tasted exactly like eating the inside of butter fingers - it breaks apart in the same way, and it sticks to your teeth in the same way.
Atmosphere:
- It is a singular stall among many other stores in Chelsea Market. There is no dedicated seating area.
Service:
- Extremely friendly. They let me sample different flavors.
Overall:
- While it didn't align with my personal tastes I can see this being better enjoyed by someone who has a much higher proclivity towards sweets.
- I do want to note that the price is pretty steep as it is $8 per slice. I suppose it is within the realm of expected prices especially comparing it to the other pricier restaurants of Chelsea Market. It's up to you to decide if you think the price is worth it.
